Kilkerran Work in Progress 7 Bourbon Wood Campbeltown single malt Scotch whisky distilled at Glengyle distillery. The final release of the WIP series, an 11 Year Old bottled 2015 and fully matured in ex-bourbon casks. 6,000 bottles.
Nose: Immediate hit of lush green apples mixed with marzipan and hot baked vanilla buns. A gentle smoke hugs the fruit notes throughout. Let it breathe in the glass for a quarter of an hour and you are greeted by immense madagascan vanilla pod seeds in warm full fat milk.
Palate: Puff of smoke mixed with tangy apple, yet elegant and mature - fantastically well rounded dram.
Finish: Long, smooth and luxurious.
Kilkerran Single Malt Whisky
Glengyle Distillery in 1872 in Campbeltown at the foot of the Kintyre Peninsular. When it closed in 1925 all the stock of malt whisky was sold and all the equipment removed. However, the surviving buildings were purchased by Hedley Wright proprietor of Springbank Distillery and a decedent of William Mitchell, in 2000 who re-furbished and re-opened Glengyle Distillery in 2004. Now equipped with two small stills and operating for one or two months per year to produce Glengyle single malt whisky called Kilkerran. Following regular releases of Work in Progress the Kilkerran 12 Year Old made its appearance in 2016.
