- Caol Ila 27 Year Old TheWhiskyBarrel.com Exclusive
TheWhiskyBarrel.com Exclusive Bottling
To celebrate the launch of our new web site TheWhiskybarrel.com 2.0 we thought a fitting memento was required and what better way than to raise a dram.
Specially picked out by our chums at independent bottlers Douglas Laing a Caol Ila matured on Islay throughout its 27 years in a sherry hogshead fits the bill perfectly.
Bottled at cask strength and without any nonsense. Just 120 bottles are available and each individually numbered. The label features a fitting tribute to this remarkable distillery which has nestled in the Sound of Islay since 1846.
Nose: Vibrant sweet sherry, brimming with citrus fruits, barley, peat smoke, polish and a feint note of emergency room.
Palate: Full bodied - heavily sweet sherry, mandarin marmalade fruit explosion leading to tangy lemon peel, barley sugar with a soft malty coating of oil and a pinch of sea salt.
Finish: Long, warm and satisfying, more mandarins, lingering sherry, spices and smoke. Overall incredibly well balanced.
Caol Ila Distillery
Caol Ila Single Malt Whisky
Caol Ila Distillery is famous for the stunning view from its still house windows looking out across the Sound of Islay and for the objects which have passed by including naval battleships, submarines and whales. Caol Ila was established in 1846 by Hector Henderson on a sheltered but rocky stretch of coast on north east Islay. Now the largest malt whisky distillery on Islay it produces peated and some un-peated malt whisky with the distillery range including Caol Ila 12 year old and the Distiller’s Edition. Caol Ila participates in Feis Ile, the annual Islay Festival of Malt and Music.
