American whiskey may have take a clean sweep of the top three whiskies in this year’s Whisky Bible by Jim Murray, but here at The Whisky Barrel we are holding a strong torch for Scotch whisky. We are delighted to announce that our very own exclusive single cask Edradour Ballechin 12 year old, 2005 vintage cask #160, 61.5% has won a category award. Receiving an epic 96 points for the Scotch 11-15 Years & Under Single Cask category.
Single Cask of the Year?
We released this single cask of Ballechin (the heavily peated version of Edradour whisky) back in August 2018. As is the way with timings, award dates etc, it is the 2020 release of Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible that recognition for this amazing whisky has been published. And what praise!
Matured in a single Refill sherry hogshead this Edradour Ballechin is a euphoria of sweet fruits, spice, smoke and peat.
“What I would give for all sherry refills to be this faultlessly breathtaking. A potential single cask of the year.” Jim Murray
High praise indeed.
Fortunately we still have this bottle in stock. Unfortunately we are talking about a very small number of bottles. We’ve always known this was an exceptional cask, and customer feedback has confirmed this. This Whisky Bible award for The Whisky Barrel’s exclusive, is further confirmation.
