We do like a big vintage exclusive here at TheWhiskyBarrel.com. It’s not that old whisky is necessarily better but when it comes to a single grain whisky, it generally is. It also helps when the likes of Hunter Laing & Co. have an Aladdin’s cave of whisky casks to choose from. So without further ado, we are delighted to introduce our latest single cask, single grain ‘oldie’: Girvan 40 Year Old 1979, The Sovereign Exclusive.
Great Grain Whisky
Girvan Whisky is not a common site among the whisky crowds. Typically the spirit is produced for blended whiskies, which is a bit of a shame. Under the right nurturing and good casks, it can be an outstanding whisky. The independent whisky scene has long seen the joys of Girvan distillery. And here we are delighted to share this Girvan 40 Year Old, 1979 vintage with you bottled by Hunter Laing.
Single grain whisky like this, enjoys nothing better than several decades in the cask. Long maturation really is big part to many successful single cask, single grain whiskies. And tasting this one, we were pleased to have found another.
Not only is this a fantastic single cask scotch whisky but it is an ideal gifting whisky. We always say whisky is perfect gift. And with this big age and vintage at 40 years, it is ideal for special birthdays or anniversaries. Imagine the reaction to receiving a 40 year old 1979 vintage single cask scotch whisky as a gift!

A lovely golden colour simply draws you in. And the nose captures you with blackcurrants, toffee apples and a lovely hint of mint. A lovely mellow whisky it is lifted by a sweetness of fruits brought by raspberries, blackberries and fresh green herbs. The finish is lovely a long, comforting with pleasing spicy notes. Yum!
