Just in time for St Andrew's Day – Ben Nevis scooped a top industry award this month, a 25 year old single cask winning SFWC 2010 Distillery Bottling of the Year. Amrut chip in with three superb new releases: Intermediate Sherry, Kadambam and an obscure 100 Peated. Some excellent new bottles from Douglas Laing and Berry Bros & Rudd due next week, keep an eye out for those.
Artisan Scotch Whiskymakers Compass Box celebrate 10 years and what better way to mark the occasion than launching some ace' new whiskies. Foreign whisky from England's only registered distillery; St Gerorge's have bottled up two new woods types to compliment their excellent Chapter series. And we've unearthed a parcel of collectable Islay bottlings featuring Ardbeg & Bruichladdich Port Charlotte including some rare single cask expressions.
Lots of new releases on the way this month. Glendronach launch Batch 3 of the distillers single cask series, unfortunately allocations are very limited and most have pre-sold – grab a bottle while you can. Bruichladdich chip in with Black Art 2 which is now a 21 year old and a highly anticipated 1977 vintage having just scooped 93/100 over on the excellent WhiskyFun.com. The 5th general release of Kilchoman, Winter 2010, from Islay's farm distillery is due mid-November.
A choice selection of fascinating new bottles have arrived from Pitlochry, courtesy of independent bottling company Signatory Vintage. Some real rarities: Dallas Dhu, Glenugie, Glen Albyn, Glen Mhor & Port Ellen are all lost Scottish distilleries which ceased production in the 1980s. Glendonach Single Casks Batch 3 & Bruichladdich Black Arts 2nd Edition due shortly.
Gordon & McPhail's newly revamped Private Collection arrived this week along with a newly bottled 1984 vintage of the lost Highland distillery Glenury Royal. Two highly anticipated new bottles from Indian distillers Amrut are available to order – stock expected early November. New releases from Signatory due next week! From today Whisky Barrel is now shipping to Israel.
October starts where it will certainly finish – a very busy month of new and recent releases. Douglas Laing deliver three new Old & Rare casks including a highly prized 19 Year Old Ardbeg. Some excellent value bottlings from Bladnoch including a new 20 Year Old and some single cask goodies from Balblair and Highland Park. A parcel of a very smart 2007 bottling of Karuizawa 1992 and several Valinch bottles from Bruichladdich will keep collectors on their toes. …
A new batch of goodies from Huntly courtesy of indy' bottlers Duncan Taylor, including a very unusual single cask Aberlour bottled earlier this month and just in time for the Speyside Whisky Festival which starts today. Some oldies return from Glenfiddich and we have unearthed some bottles of Highland Park Earl Magnus 1st Release and Hazelburn 12 Year Old 2009 Release. Murray McDavid will release the 2010 series of Celtic Heartlands in November – for the time being a new bottling of Bowmore (bottled at Bruichladdich) enters the fray under the Mission cask strength series. A collection of rather special and incredibly rare SMWS bottles from the private members club including an ancient Glenfarclas and Longmorn distilled in the 1960's rounds up a restrained week for new releases.
A few rare gems for collectors and connoisseurs including a new vintage release from Yoichi – the previous bottlings in the series scooped countless international awards.
