The historic release of Scotch whisky distilled on the Isle of Leiws, the first Lewis Scotch in over 170 years. Single first fill ex-bourbon cask bottled without any nonsense.
Launched to much fanfare during the Royal National Mod on 14th October 2011.
Limited release of 2,011 bottles. This is how we Scot's used to make whisky, from a (former) illicit still without computers and matured near the coast in a chilly, damp warehouse.
See our Abhainn Dearg Distillery blog article for review.
Nose: Unmistakable young spirit, sweet barley sugar, butterscotch, vanilla pods, pine forest and layers of sea salt. Remarkably similar to walking along the beach at Uig bay.
Palate: Hot and quite oaky, the barley sugar and vanillas apparent on the nose are all kept in check by lashings of pine
Abhainn Dearg Distillery
Abhainn Dearg Single Malt Whisky
Abhainn Dearg Distillery was established in 2008 by Marko Tayburn and is a Scottish Islands distillery situated at Carnish near Uig in the Isle of Lewis on the Outer Hebrides. Abhainn Dearg Distillery uses locally grown and malted barley, matures its spirits in dunnage warehouses close to the Atlantic shore and bottles by hand at the distillery. Draff is fed a local heard of Highland cattle. With just two very small stills each with a round wooden worm tub Abhainn Dearg Distillery has the smallest capacity of all Scottish malt whisky distilleries.
